ASU-Beebe held its annual scholarship reception October 24 where more than a dozen students got the opportunity to meet and thank the donors who fund the privately funded scholarships they were recently awarded. These students represented all of the ASU-Beebe campuses located in Beebe, Heber Springs, Searcy, the Little Rock Air Force Base, and online.
ASU-Beebe Development Council Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Lea, of Carlisle, majoring in studies with an emphasis in sonography; and Jacob Russell, of Austin, majoring in Computerized Machining Technology. The ASU-Beebe Development Council is a group of community leaders and friends of the college, who combine efforts to secure private funding and increase endowments to benefit students choosing to attend ASU-Beebe.
Billy F. Powell Scholarship was awarded to Felicite Bolden, of Searcy, majoring in psychology. The scholarship was established by Mary Powell in 2011 in memory of her husband Billy Powell, an instructor of psychology at ASU-Beebe at the time of his death.
Brenda Shurley Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Cameron Barnes, of Beebe, majoring in Mid-Level Education. The scholarship was endowed in 2005, and is made available by Brenda Shurley of Cabot, owner of the Shurley Method.
Brinkley Foundation Scholarship was awarded to Paige Olivia Foree, of Heber Springs, majoring in Early Elementary Education. The Brinkley Scholarship is presented to an incoming freshman who has a high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Business and Professional Women of Heber Springs Scholarship was awarded to Rhett Hartwick, of Quitman, majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Business and Professional Women of Heber Springs established the scholarship to be given to a resident of Cleburne County who attends ASU-Beebe Heber Springs and maintains a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
Central Arkansas Association Conservation Districts - Donny R. Sudmeyer & Danny F. Sudmeyer was awarded to Zachary Sartain, of Drasco, majoring in general studies. Steve Martin coordinated the scholarship donation and serves as the president of the Central Arkansas area.
Charles and Regina Stuart Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Brandon Sartain, of Drasco, majoring in business. Charles and Regina Stuart are longtime supporters of Cleburne County and the historical society.
Cleburne County Memorial Chapter 1757 UDC Scholarship was awarded to Angela Frazier, of Heber Springs, an Associate of Arts and Sciences major with an emphasis in Medical Laboratory Technology. The scholarship was established to further higher education pursuits of the recipients.
Denver and Ruby Nettles Scholarship was awarded to Ryelee Snider and John Robinson, both of Lonoke, and both majoring in agriculture. The Denver and Ruby Nettles scholarship was established in memory of both Ruby and Denver E. Nettles, a former assistant professor and division chair of the agriculture department at ASU-Beebe.
Doris Sue Whittaker Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Morgenstern, of Beebe, majoring in Practical Nursing. The Doris Sue Waddle-Whittaker Scholarship was endowed in 2004 by the family as a memorial to the former student and nurse, and is awarded to a nursing student.
Dr. Diane Tiner Logan Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Kaitlyn Smith, of Quitman, majoring in education. The Dr. Diane Tiner Logan Endowment Scholarship is given to an education major, and was established in honor of Dr. Tiner Logan, the former vice chancellor of the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs campus.
Dr. Judy McKay Scholarship was awarded to Anna Watson, of Searcy, majoring in health science. The scholarship was given in memory of Dr. Judy McKay, retired associate professor of English.
Dr. Ruth Couch Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Regan Yates, of Heber Springs, majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences; Christopher Davis, of Greenbrier, majoring in Diesel Technology; Brianna Duncan, of Beebe, majoring in Health Sciences; Ivy Gonzales, of Cabot, an Associate of Health Science major; Ronnie Grice, of Vilonia, majoring in business with a medical emphasis; Grace Hinebaugh, of Greenbrier, majoring in health science; Kylie Jones, of Cabot, majoring in elementary education; Tiffany String, of Beebe, majoring in Liberal Arts and Science; Johnathan Outlaw, of Cabot, majoring in business. The scholarship was established by the late Dr. Ruth L. Couch, emeritus professor of English and former vice chancellor for Academic Affairs.
E. H. “Doc” and Ruth Abington Scholarship was awarded to Kaira Yates, of Bradford, majoring in health science with an emphasis in pre-pharmacy. The E.H. “Doc” and Ruth Abington Scholarship was established in 1999 to further the education of students in the community.
England Challenge Scholarship was awarded to Jenna Bridges, of Cabot, majoring in Elementary Education. The scholarship was endowed in 1996 by the late Walter England, emeritus associate professor of education and former ASU-Beebe Dean, to benefit students pursuing a career in teaching.
Eoff Family Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Cadmiel Bigham, of Searcy, majoring in fine arts. The Eoff Family Scholarship was endowed in 2006 by Cathy Eoff, owner of Eoff & Associates Realty in Beebe, as a tribute to her family for their dedication to education.
Foundation Music Scholarship was awarded to Tyler Roberson, of Searcy, majoring in fine arts.
Heber Springs General Scholarship was awarded to Danielle Alfonzo, of Drasco, majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences; and Zachary Sartain, of Drasco, majoring in general studies. The scholarship was awarded by the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs Development Council, which is a group of community leaders and friends of the college.
James and Wilma Beard Scholarship was awarded to Johannes Cornelisson, of Quitman, majoring in General Education; and Morgan Shelton, of Pocahontas, majoring in agriculture with an emphasis in animal science. The scholarship was given by the late Wilma Beard, long-time chair of the English and Fine Arts Division, in memory of her husband, James Beard.
Jeannie Lindsey Scholarship was awarded to Shae Stowe, of Rose Bud, majoring in education. The scholarship was established by Jeannie Lindsey, a former division chair of the physical education and social science departments at
John Deere Scholarship was awarded to Michael Bonecutter of Jacksonville, Kyle Nance of Maumelle; Jacob Ashcraft of Scott City, MO; Eric Vargas, of Wabbaseka; Cody Stroud of Pine Bluff; Nickolus Kearns of Bossier, LA; Craig McCoy of Haughton, LA. All recipients are ASU-Beebe students in the John Deere Agriculture Technology program. The John Deere Ag Tech program is a cooperative agreement between the John Deere Company, John Deere dealers and 24 colleges across the nation. Students completing the program graduate with an Associates of Applied Science degree while also completing a cooperative work experience at a John Deere dealership.
Judd Hill Foundation Health Profession Scholarship was awarded to Maddison Hammonds, of Quitman, majoring in Practical Nursing; Zachary McArthur, of Heber Springs, majoring in health sciences; Lillie Potter, of Edgemont, majoring in health sciences; and Trinaty Ellington, of Quitman, majoring in health sciences. The scholarship was awarded by Mike Gibson, trustee of the Judd Hill Foundation, which was established to improve health care and agriculture in Arkansas.
Larry Sims Agriculture Scholarship was awarded to Amanda Barnes, of Searcy, majoring in agriculture. The scholarship was established by Marchia Sims, retired ASU-Beebe employee, in memory of her husband Larry Sims, who was a long-time employee of the Arkansas Plant Board.
Leon and Virginia Shanack Scholarship was awarded to William Yancey, of Searcy, majoring in Computer Systems and Networking Technology. The Leon and Virginia Shanack Scholarship was established by a former ASU-Beebe employee in honor of her parents.
Lillian and Mark Barnett Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Nadia Watson, of Heber Springs, majoring in health sciences. This scholarship was established by the children of Lillian and Mark Barnett as a memorial to their parents and is available to a Heber Springs graduate.
Linda Jo Welch Memorial Endowment Scholarship was awarded to Justin Hawkins of England, majoring in General Education with an emphasis in business. The Linda Jo Welch Memorial Scholarship applications are available for students majoring in business. The scholarship was created in memory of former business instructor Linda Jo Welch.
Marvin and Geraldine Speight Educational Scholarship was awarded to Tyler Jones, of Beebe, an Associate of Fine Arts major with an emphasis in theater. The Marvin and Geraldine Speight Educational Scholarship was established in 2016 by Arkansas Community Foundation in honor of long-time ASU-Beebe basketball coach and education professor Marvin Speight.
NEA Angus Association Scholarship was awarded to Shannon Sutterfield, of Pangburn, majoring in Hospitality Administration. Bill Davis, who serves on the ASU-Beebe Heber Springs Campus Development Council, presented the scholarship on behalf of the Northeast Arkansas Angus Association.
R.V. Powell Agriculture Scholarship was awarded to Joanna Adams, of Cabot, majoring in agriculture; and Trey Kelley, of Conway, majoring in agriculture. The R.V. Powell Scholarship was established in memory of R.V. Powell, a longtime local businessman and friend of ASU-Beebe.
Sharae Elizabeth Jones Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Grayson Fields, of Sherwood, majoring in Computer Information Systems. The Sharae Elizabeth Jones Memorial Scholarship, formerly known as Jones Family Trust, is given in memory of Sharae Jones, to a full-time student, who is not a recipient of a federally funded grant.
Spradlin Family Scholarship was awarded to Anthony Conklin, of Cabot, majoring in business. The Spradlin Family Scholarship is available to a high school graduating senior, who plans to attend ASU-Beebe and major in math and science related courses.
Veterinary Technology Program Scholarship was awarded to Chloe Garland, of Magnolia, majoring in Veterinary Technology. The Veterinary Technology program prepares students to assist licensed veterinarians in providing healthcare services.
W.H. Owen Jr. Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Olivia Stankiewicz, of Luxora, majoring in liberal arts and sciences with an emphasis in political science. The scholarship was established in memory of former ASU-Beebe chancellor W. H. Owen Jr.
"We congratulate these high achieving scholarship recipients," said Rose Mary Jackson, Associate Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement. "We are also grateful for the generosity of the donors for making these scholarships possible."
